Kurokill - Explanation and Registration

  Wat?

This is a casual game within a game, a murder game where nobody gets killed. I'm not against death and angst and violence, I'm just too lazy to come up with the artifice for otherwise pretty normal characters to go homicidal.

How to Join

This is a short-term game amongst friends, so I'm not going to bother with an OOC community. There are no apps, and characters are first come first serve; comment here with who you're playing. For this time around, I'm going with only characters from Kuroko no Basuke.

I'm not advertising this anywhere public, so if you got linked here you're probably friends of someone who's alright.

Multiple characters are okay. Game requires teams. You don't have to plan who's teaming up with who when you sign up but your characters can't be on their own team, and you can only play one team with each person. Example: John can play two characters, but they can't be on the same team and only one of them can be on a team with any of Sally's characters.

What I'm saying is don't app two characters who it'd be hard to justify NOT teaming up together without a plan.

Because the game requires an even number of players, I'll either throw in or drop a character myself to get there.

Timeline

The timing is tentatively post-Kuroko's birthday, Pre-Extra/Last Game. I picked this so all third year characters who've moved on post-series are still around and, even if retired, affiliated enough with their schools or team to reasonably join in. If you want to change the time frame, ask and depending on how it'll effect anyone else who's joining, we'll adjust. I don't see a big enough crowd for a lot of tensions to rise.

The game's expected to last through September at the latest. In-universe, the game is three days.

Setting, in-universe rules

The setting for the game will be a mountain shack on some fictional ski slope area of northern Japan; they're signing up for a murder game in-world. They know it's a game, no character ever actually thinks anyone's going to die as a part of this game. a building map will be provided.

The setting/arrival will start July 1st. Before that, you can have your characters wherever you want, either meeting in person or discussing via phone/net/etc. about team up plans. Feel free to post to this community for those. You're not required to do any pre-gaming, it's just an option for more fun.

Decide yourself how they get notified; it's a contest for which players must register as teams for a murder game. No school can have more than two teams: this rule is mostly to justify why every single cast member isn't present to try to get the most win chances. We can change it to one team or whatever number or futz some rules around based won who people want to play from which teams.  Riko and Momoi are welcome to play.

Last surviving team gets 200,000 yen (about $2,000) grant to their school's basketball team. If more than one team's left alive, nobody gets the 200,000 yen grant.

Team with the most kills also gets 100,000 yen for their school's basketball team. In case of ties for most kills, all in the tie will get 100,000 yen.

If a team is from two schools, the winning amount is split.

So yes, in theory, nobody could kill anybody and each team could get 100,000 yen and this could just be a happy, merry winter vacation mini-game. I'm counting on enough people playing competitive characters for that not to happen, but it's a valid strategy.

The sponsor is some eccentric rich otaku who recently got into a high school basketball Light Novel Slam no Jam. It's your typical shounen/fujobait sports series. Make up whatever trope-laden details you want if your characters look into it.

Exact rules won't be announced to the characters in advance for them to plan this much out, but team members will pick one of two roles. These roles will relate to how "killing" happens. Characters won't know which character is which role on other teams, or even necessarily what the teams they are unless they share it. Besides myself, who's moderating, players also won't know, as submissions of team roles will be on  a comment-screened post.

Rules/Mechanics

Part of the fun of the game is keeping secrets. If you want to do private threads, this journal will have access groups made as necessary. You don't need to friend this journal for me to make the groups or posts. Posts locked to players in a certain scene can be made to try to keep events that would reveal deals and roles a secret. I'll unlock all posts to everyone after the game. As to why you don't just lock the posts on your own journals, see the special rules regarding Shadow characters.

Not everything's going to be locked. Just because something ISN'T locked isn't license to info-mod. You're not required to use locked threads, either, it's just an option that's there for you depending on how much secrecy plays into the fun for you all.

The game will take place over three days. The first day will be played all throughout July. Posts for each location with a rough timeframe will be made. For example, there'll be a post for the kitchen, with sub-comments for morning, noon, evening, and overnight. Unless your character is locking the place up, just start playing there. If there's a reason others might not hear from the outside or enter, or if you want to switch to a private thread for any reason, make a locked thread. I'll make a mod note that the room is locked at that point if anyone tries to enter, or put a note to knock or list a specific entry time to ask about moving the thread to public, or letting them into the locked thread.

Threads will not be ret-conned to let someone in. The soonest you can get in and interact will be the current position of the thread. See special roles section for spying, which you CAN retroactively succeed at under certain conditions.

The second day will start August 1st, so try to wrap things up in that timeframe. You can keep playing past days if you want, but try to avoid doing anything that'll require anyone to retcon any activities they start on August 1st for day 2. Day 3 will be September 1st, and will go until noon in-universe.

Put your characters in there to have run ins, or if it's a locked post until interrupted, put in a post stating they're in there around what time. If someone else walks in, they'll have to be let into your locked post too, unless there's a reason they can't enter the room.

Special Character Rules (Shadows, Takao)

Kurokos or Mayuzumis can tell me about what time they enter a non-locked, private thread and I'll share give them the threads from when they enter the scene. They can choose to be let into the locked post on an interacting level at any time by saying or doing something at any time, though they can't require the thread to retcon. If a Takao is on scene, Takao will be informed of at what point they entered the scene; if he calls them out, they'll be let into the locked post to interact.

If your character wants to hide in a closet or under a bed or the like, let me know when they go to do such and information on threads there will be shared accordingly. If your character is checking for such things upon entering a room, let me know and I'll give you the all clear or the reveal so you can thread appropriately. Takao can see shadows but can't see through doors or under beds. Kurokos and Mayuzumis.... might be able to hide in plain sight. Let's see where it goes. Definitely not from Takaos, probably not from Akashis, Kurokos maaaaybe not from Aomines, but we'll see how thorough the searching description is vs. how good the hiding method is.

So do you just decide things willy-nilly?

If a dispute or need to decide a rule I haven't thought of arises, I'll be that decision maker. Skill disputes are up to involved players unless you want me to cast a deciding vote. I'll rng it unless it's stupidly obvious. Akashi vs. Kuroko one on one basketball; stupidly obvious. Most any other Miracle vs. Miracle, even while I've got some strong opinions, I'm RNGing if you ask. This includes any with my own characters where it's not completely obvious since discussing it when I'm technically a mod with a formal deciding vote is unfair.

I got offended by a thing.

It's KnB in a game with no actual murders, I don't see things getting too graphic, besides maybe some characters shacking up or being teenage boys talking about tits or porn or Aomine getting a ganguro joke at his expense.

Going to assume everyone's cool with yaoi and ship-baiting humor and such in the setting. It's KnB, it seems like it'd be a really hard series to be into without some fujo-tolerence.

Any content warnings in the subject lines are because someone decides they want to put them, they're not required. I'm assuming everyone in the game's cool, no one's going to suddenly set off on a political diatribe or trying to write sequels of Marquis de Sade novels. It also means I assume that all players are mentally healthy enough to handle whatever comes at them, or asking another player to redirect if a thread goes an uncomfortable direction.

I'm not stepping in unless it's god/info-modding or wildly OOC. I'm admittedly also assuming everyone's too cool for that. I'm intending to be more janitor than mod.

It's been a while, but I'm bringing him back out of retirement! It's Nikki, claiming Kuroko.

Here to lay down some claims. Primarily, I'll claim Hyuuga Junpei.

Since the need for teams will make the number of players important, I'd like to tentatively claim Himuro, too. If this leaves an odd man out or someone else prefers to play him, I don't want to hog the spot. However, if the numbers allow it and there's no other interest, I'll take two three-point nerds.

Throwing in with Takao and Kiyoshi for the time being. Will either nab another if we need to to balance, which means everyone will be partnered with me, or drop one if we get enough people with potential team-ups. But we should probably have more than two teams.
